Carotid stenosis
Definition
It is mainly a narrowing (stenosis) of the internal carotid artery, which brings oxygenated blood to the brain. The stenosis is usually secondary to the atheroma. It occurs in patients with cardiovascular risk factors: Active or old smoking, hypercholesterolemia, arterial hypertension and diabetes.
The risk of atheroma in this place is stroke.
This is why it is important to detect patients early enough to control the disease and thus avoid the occurrence of a stroke.
